Malaysia's new Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri Yaakob, announced the country's goal of achieving carbon neutrality as early as 2050 and pledged to stop the construction of new coal-fired power plants.

The government will replace coal power plants with gas power plants operating in Peninsular Malaysia to achieve cleaner power generation.

Malaysia's carbon neutrality measures also include using renewable energy sources such as biomass and biogas for power generation, and the goal is to increase to 31% of the country's total power generation by 2025.

Malaysia will also introduce "economic instruments such as carbon pricing and carbon excise" to support its realization of carbon neutrality and pledge to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per unit of GDP by 45% by 2030 compared to 2005.
